We are now entering a time in our social history without precedence.

  • The age group of 60 and over represents 22.59% of the total population in Sevenoaks.  This compares with an equivalent figure for the South East of 16.84%.
  • The number of people in the region aged over 60 is greater than the number of children aged under 16.
  •  It is projected that, by 2014, the number of people in the region aged 65 and over will exceed the numbers aged under 16.

Age Concern Sevenoaks & District is a local, autonomous charity.  Since its founding in 1947, it has unceasingly promoted the well-being of all older people and has helped to make later life a fulfilling and enjoyable experience for many of them within our community.  However, as the inevitable ageing crisis develops, the demands on our services are going to increase dramatically, as will our costs.

Our annual running costs currently exceed £520,000, and yet we receive less than 40% in funding.  We need to be prepared for the future; to develop, and to adapt; and to ensure that we are able to continue to provide the high quality of essential care and support services that have made us a valuable part of the community for older people during the last sixty years.
